St. Michael's Institution, Ipoh.

This photo of SMI was taken from the Town Padang. Note the large trees on both sides of the road. The road is just visible beyond the white concrete fence of the Town Padang.

Anyone with photos of SMI or Ipoh prior to 1965? It can be of events, of friends, or scenery. We are looking for photos that capture a time period of Ipoh and SMI. I know that there are many old photos of annual march past that went along Brewster Road. Sports events are of particular interest as they bring dignitaries of that era. If you have scan it and send it here. Please include your name and email so that your contributions can be acknowledged properly.

Thanks and do link/bookmark this page, as we will include more photos and improve the site.

Past photos of SMI events and pre-war Ipoh

Who are these students and teachers? Obviously they play hockey. The car in the background places this photo between 1935 to 1948. There is a sign on the building which reads as "Tuanku Abdul Rahman Club". The shingle type roofing with battens are typical of 1920's and 30's buildings. I have repaired this photo extensively but I have kept most of it as original as I see it.If anyone can identify the individuals and the event, please let me know.

These are two photos of a sports day at SMI. The dignitary is obviously royalty and may be the Sultan. I believe these photos were taken in the late 1930's.

Any clues as to the boy below or the Brother above in the photos? The man, helping with the prizes, looks like Mr Fitzpatrick, a teacher at SMI. He was reportedly killed in action against the Japanese in 1941 while serving with the FMSVF 1st (Perak) Battalion.
